"They also note that they take very seriously the concerns of solo-oriented and console-only gamers."

honestly.. of all the mmo's I've played the only one that *truly* caters to the soloist gamer in ALL aspects is GuildWars... Bioware has an excellent track record, but honestly.. I'll believe that statement when I see it.

He thinks a successful MMO must allow for both single- and multi-player gameplay. I guess he never played EverQuest. The whole point of an MMO is multi-player gameplay, that's why it's called an MMO. Being allowed to do single-player, like all the current (successful, btw) games, and building it into your game are very different things. One of the great things about EQ was that you were (almost) forced to group with people. I played a Wizard and quad-kited and soloed, but grouping a much more fun. I met a lot of cool people and had a lot of fun because I had to work with others. WoW gets ridiculously boring 90% of the time because I'm doing everything alone, just like everyone else, with tiny bits of groupage. It's even more of a glorified IRC system than EQ used to be. This whole genre is seriously gaining dust and dying, it needs real innovation and dynamics (not graphics), IMO.

Unfortunately I've lost a bit of hope for this game. I'm a big fan of BioWare, I loved BG and KOTOR, so hopefully they won't destroy it...but built-in voice chat and single-player development focus...this genre is starting to suck for people that like to game and not meta-game. :(

Also I wonder if designing for a console is going to make them dumb down the interface at all.
