The idea is that kids prefer to be the badass musclar guy (bald-space-marine syndrome) and that orcs generally meet that definition better than humans ;)
BUT humans in WoW are almost as musclar as the orcs and a lot prettier.
LotR (the films) also helped sell the alliance I think.
