The vets that left when the game was radically changed from a sandbox
to a themepark are still angry for a reason. They have nowhere to go.
There is no game like SWG on the market today. If SOE would open a
Classic Server for SWG, even today, I bet it'd be the most populous
server they have. Even if they made (and they should) everyone start
from survival knife and maroj melon and no vehicle, it'd be packed.

I know alot of people wouldn't even play that now, sadly. They're so
angry at SOE they won't give them or Sony another dime as long as they
live, and I respect that. Years later I'm still looking for a game
that recaptures the feeling of preCU SWG... I doubt I'll ever find it
unless the EMU teams finally put something out.

I loved the original SWG.

They gave into whiney kids who just wanted an open world version of jedi knight and removed the RPG part of MMORPG

I would play a "classic" Pre CU world and cancel my WOW account TODAY if one popped up.

And for the record, the alderaan stories and stuff happened before NGE, because they were long over when I quit shortly after NGE ruined the game

"Updates only coming every other month or so, the Star Wars Galaxies developers can ensure that when new content does arrive, it's the highest quality they possibly make it.

But here, now, there's only one Star Wars MMO on the market. The developers are talking closely with the community to understand what they want, and great things are happening in the Galaxy Far, Far Away.

What's past is past, and nothing can change that. Welcome back to Star Wars Galaxies."

Unbelievable...

I'm serious here...

I can't believe some of the things that I've read.

I used to work as an editor for an online game magazine and if I had written something so blatantly bias and absurd I would have been fired on the spot. It's no wonder everyone thinks you've been paid off (and I'll get to that).

I also played SWG from release until the NGE. Are you completely blind to what took place? Do you not realize the state the game is in? Ever wonder why there has not been an expansion pack in 3 years? Does the subscriber base of under 250,000 (more like 25-75k) sound like a hit game to come back to? Did you know this is the only game in the history of MMO's to lose a over 75% player base in 3 months and around 95% of the active 2002 player base since then?

WOW Guys! Looks like SWG is ready for us to come back! Lets pay them!

Mr. Zenke, this post either reeks of the blind belief of a man who is either...

A. So obsessed with Star Wars that he will hype it up no matter how bad it is.

B. Actually being paid by SOE. Let's be honest here... Sony has done questionable advertising tactics in the past. Remember when Sony made that website for the PSP to hype it up and it was just a company made site. I hate to call out editors but this looks exactly like company jargon to get new subscribers by hyping up the 5th Anniversary. Any publicity is good publicity for SWG and if they have to get a controversial article to get the name out there... why not do it?

C. A man who is satisfied with a game that has been dumbed down for elementary school aged players... a game that is completely void of what originally made SWG the game it was.

I honestly don't know what it is... I hope for your sake it isn't B.

Overall this article was pathetic mark to your name and I hope you think twice about witting such bias and all almost "sell-outish" drivel in the future.

This is what you should have written after the NGE era.

"There was outcry and there was ruin as "a million voices cried out at once"... SOE made the fatal flaw of NOT LISTENING TO THEIR PLAYER BASE. In the end they paid with their error by not only losing almost all their subscribers, but the ability to create future revenue through expansion packs.

The game is now at a standstill for the most part, running with a fairly small staffed development team by high-end MMO standards. SOE is still currently putting out patches; trying to appease the current subscriber base and even going so much as to hope some old players will give it another shot. However, it is still not the same as it used to be... far from it.

I think many of us will look forward to a future with a solid Star Wars MMO that can perhaps rekindle some of the memories we had when we first played SWG during it's early years.

With the news of LucasArts teaming up with Bioware and the rumors surrounding a new Star Wars MMO, there may be a "New Hope" that many players dreams can continue soon...

In a galaxy far far away..."

That's how you write an unbiased, factual article non company funded sounding article on what took place after the NGE. None of this swish swash, come back and play me garbage.

What's "now is now" Mr. Zenke and nothing can change that either. What's now is a game that is near death. What's now is a game that has survived simply because it the small amount of subscribers still make enough of a profit to warrant continued updates. What once was a utopia for so many like Theeds are now minuscule groups of AFK bots. Areas that once housed great player cities are now blank ruins. Yes Mr. Zenke nothing can change the past... and for that SWG is dead.

If you like Star Wars do yourself a favor and get KoToR.

Anyway...

Good Luck...
