If it all remains in character then sure. Posting photos of WoW is ok inside WoW, posting photos of your new girlfriend should stay on the forums.

Forums act as the RL portion of the MMO community and it should definitely stay separate.

If customers demand such integrated web services I can see some MMORPG companies instituting a Web 2.0 social service. There is also the issue of time. In the moment it makes sense to state that there should be a division between these service types but over time as the "my space generation" will probably sway providers in the direction of social networking.

I think, most emphatically "No" they should not be seperate. The only issue is that you can't allow people the same level of freedom in an MMOG as you do in a virtual world, where they should be allowed to do anything they like.

So you have to be able to change the world permissions upon entry to the MMO, eliminating all scripting, returning illegal items, etc. But ideally, it should all take place in one immense interconnected sandbox.
