I think we sometimes forget that we don't actually own the company. We are after all just customers. Yes we feel (some of us anyway) that we have some almost mystic connection to the Lab, just by our love of the platform. But reality strikes - coup de foudre - we are just a cash source. And they never lied about that

Well, that's all information I could get from (say) my local grocery chain, as an example. I can go down and simply ask for the specifics of any policy relating to their interactions with customers.

That generates the sort of predictability that makes my dealings with the company as transparent as I choose -- that is, I need not be surprised nor in doubt in any ordinary circumstance, because the company is willing to lay out the rules that it uses to deal with me and with others like me -- and it is willing to stick to them, even when they become awkward or inconvenient. There is a high level of assurance as a result.
