Comments in Torley's blog about the new forms indicate that some of the parameters were changed or unwisely altered between the times the creators sent them to LL and when the pictures Torley used for the survey were taken. I hope this will get fixed before the official release.

Did LL ever announce that they were accepting submissions for new starter avatars?

Considering the amount of advertising the creators are getting, it would have been nice to know if it in advance so I could take part.

Sort of. They put the word around back in March: http://www.massively.com/2008/03/14/linden-lab-wants-to-buy-new-default-avatars-from-you/

.. and it's not just advertising, they were paying in US$.

Hi Everyone,

I am kind of flabergasted about the sudden release with no official notice of the new avatars. I have a lot to say, but am holding my tongue until I hear what LL has to say.

Out of the 8 avatars that I was asked to deliver, apparently only the Male Wood Elf was actually used. I am not sure why the female is not included, I am looking into it, but rest assured a full rights version of all the avatars I submitted will be available one way or another. There is already a storm of comments on many many blogs about the lack of fantasy avatar content. Rest assured that if LL does not put out full rights free Fantasy complete avatars, I will.

I am appalled that the designers avatars were changed. Especially since the clothing, skin, hair, shoes, etc were custome fit to be a drag and drop avatar. My avatar came with a sword that completed the outfit, I am not sure why it was not included, but I will be putting it out in my main store totally free. It will be a scripted version so you can go straight into any fantasy RP sim and be ready to go.

I also want to say that I used Eloh's base shading layer for my skin on two of the avatars out of 8. I talked to Eloh before hand, and I DID include a very nice thank you To Eloh in my notecard. But unfortunately they neglected to include a notecard with the one design of mine they included in the library.

Eloh is a wonderful contributor to the SL community and though she is very modest and does not want a lot of attention. Credit should be given for her work, and with the very short timeline allotted to finish these avatars, without her help it would not have happened. (Skins take me weeks to get right from the base layer up, and Eloh was a godsend).

Anyways, I will hold my tongue any further until I hear back from LL or see some kind of official Blog comment. I am just feeling a bit upset today and wanted to clarify a few things. As soon as all the official info is out there I will rant away good or bad about the new default Avies.

I will be starting a thread on my personal blog to discuss this as soon as I hear something official from LL.
