FunCom project manager LordOrion has announced on the European Age of Conan forums that the controversial 'consequences' system for PvP is looking good and nearing completion, adding that 'next week will be quite exciting -- I hope!'
Details are, of course, sketchy. LordOrion says 'I will wait with revealing any details, but it might involve certain debuffs and... well, encouraging other players to deal with you! Of course, there will be certain rules involved here. Fair PvPing might not get you into trouble.' Might? Let's hope that there's a translation error here, because we can't see any reason why 'fair PvPing' ever should get you into trouble.
We've seen a lot of speculation on the promised AoC 'consequences' system, which has been purported to involve gankers being hunted down and imprisoned and sentenced to monotonous community service tasks, such as killing rats with a stick.
LordOrion's words, however, could be hinting at a milder version of this, and we're not sure why he should be hesitant to release details, since we've already heard plenty about the intended system. Could it be that FunCom have revised the system in the face of public criticism? Debuffs and bounties on your head are far less severe than picking up a rock and moving it five hundred times.
We can only hope that the PvP XP system comes close on the heels of the 'consequences' system. If there are going to be penalties for doing it wrong, surely the next thing to give your players is some rewards for doing it right?

Debuffs bad. Getting hunted down good.
The difference here is that the former makes it less fun for gankers (who deserve to have as much fun as the guy collecting alligator eyeballs) while the latter is making it more fun for the people pissed off at the gankers, which afterall is who this system is for. So make it so there's a benefit to being a ganker-hunter instead of penalizing ganking.
If slicing up a lowbie gives me a debuff, I'm going to stop slicing him, but I'm also going to be having less fun and quitting this game. On the other hand, if a posse of vigilantes came riding over the hill looking for me... Well now you've got my subscription dollars cuz that right there is awesome.

I would imagine a good "consequences" system to work luch like morrowind or Oblivion. Commit a "Crime" and you have a bounty on your head. You will be left alone for a while, but if the bounty gets too big, it becomes arrest on site. If you manage to avoid that and keep comitting crimes/killing lowbies, it become kill on site and maybe some type of penalty such as loss of money, but nothing like down leveling or day long debuffs. Maybe if you get so bad, towns may send search parties out for you. Players could take on your bounties as well a la EVE.
The whole goal is to make these "consequences" just as fun to live with as being a law abiding citizen. I love running from the law in Oblivion, maybe even killing a guard here and there. Eventually I always get caught and usually killed or I pay off the guards. But then I no longer have a bounty and its back to square 1.
Bottom line: MAKE IT FUN!

Weak. I just read that the "bounty hunters" are just NPCs that get up in your grill and take you to jail if you don't bribe them. That's not fun at all, and neither are the jailhouse quests. This all wreaks of PvPenalize and that's not good.
Look I realize you that people are demanding consequences for griefing, I understand that. But these consequences are game enders for people like me. If I have to go to jail every time I kill someone more than five levels lower than me, I'm just gonna quit, because then AoC loses one of its biggest draws for me. I know it sounds crazy, but the idea of "fun consequences" sounds much more appealing to me. Like the player posse I mentioned above, that's fun. If my penalty for killing other players was having to avoid players designated as bounty hunters, then that's pretty fun and dynamic, a lot more fun than "step foot in the land you're wanted in and immediately get approached by a group of burly NPCs". That's just dumb.

I think the only way to deal with this, is the WAR system. The ganker gets turned into a CHICKEN instantly. End of story.
There's no fun factor involved in killing anyone who just can't defend himself. And if you can't get any fun out of killing in a fair PvP fight is because you never win. Maybe you should learn to play your class, or go play any single player games?

You should try, it's pretty fun killing helpless welps. And the other side of the coin can be fun too. I get killed by a guy 10 levels higher than me, I might decide not to run away afterwards. I'll start thinking about "how can I get this guy back", and I start following him, stalking him, waiting for the right time to do it. It's FUN.
Who said I don't enjoy "fair" PvP? And besides, how are you gonna define that, because unless it's two of the exact same characters, then people will find a way to complain about something. My class is OP, or my gear is too good to attack you, or bla bla bla. You people put all these rules on what's acceptable PvP and all of a sudden there's no freedom, which is from what I gather the breath of fresh air that people are expecting from this game.
Don't shoot from the hip at me with your assumptions and accusations. Bring some good reasoning to the table next time.

penalties will basically stop world pvp. why do you think wow came out with battle grounds? every single casual player cried when they got ganked, world pvp in wow died in 10 days after it being release via patch. aoc has been out for like 3 weeks, and world pvp will be dead? bad move.

I really like the idea of a bounty system. I get thrills just thinking about looking at a noticeboard, picking out the name of a heinous ganker and roaming out to bury an axe in his face, and getting some nice cash for it.
It would make people think twice about ganking: Sure, it might be fun to one-shot that newb over there, but is it worth having ten other players hunting you down?

Using actual players as bounty hunters led to rampant chaos in other MMOs. Let me explain.
Faceeater the Bear Shaman ganks 901324901234123 lowbies and gets a nice big bounty. He runs away and waits for Nutkicker the Barbarian to kill him and take his bounty.
Faceeater and Nutkicker laugh together on Vent as they split the bounty.

Lvl 80 Guardian/Conqueror, right now my D/K is 72/370, i fight more 75+ and 80s then anything. I killed probably 50 lvl 20-65, mostly one shot them, ummm that was fun, especially if i get fatality every time. This is AGE OF CONAN, not a fucking USA DEMOCRACY/COURT SYSTEM. If they implement jail time, then i want IMPLEMETED LAWYERS and COURT houses. FUNCOM is depressing me, i am running 2 accounts, and if this patch sucks, i am cancelling both of them and move on to WARHAMMER. They want this game to be real, then let the PVP be they way it is. When ever conan wanted soemthing in the movies he went and took it, wether it was food, money, women, lifes. There was no fucking repricatiouns to it, may be some dude hunting him for raping his wife or whatever, that was it pretty much. So to all of you crying little bitches, who dont like to be killed, think someone else gear is better then yours, and so on. Go buy yourself a BARBIE GAME for pc, and color her hair or something, if you dont have time, money, or nerve to win or loose, to grind or farm, or just buy it online, dont have connections who can hook you up with some decent gear, then i am surprised you know how to get online and type on this forum.
