It is a smart decision of theirs. Hell, if I wasn't so wrapped up with Age of Conan right now (Plus the fact that installing EQ2 takes forever [and I don't have my CD's with me, lol]) I'd log on just to check out my old characters.

*shock*

SOE, this is possibly the coolest thing you've ever done for Norrathian nerds! Installing EQ2 right now!

Loyalty usually gets the short end of the carrot in things like this. Same with cable tv companies, phone companies, etc. Programs to re-gain customers tend to have great deals the current customer base can't get.

That being said, SOE does seem to have this whole thing planned out with events and whatnot, so hopefully there *will* be something for the current players above and beyond what the temp-activated ones get.

For me, I left EQ2 over the customer service rather than the gameplay. So if I go back to check it out in these two months, that is the area I'll be checking out to see if there are any improvements.

In typical SOE fashion the installer doesn't work for me. I'm a previous EQ and EQ2 player, downloaded the EQ2 installer to maybe give it another try. Shock of shocks! It doesn't work, crashes attempting to update itself.

Guess I'll have to be content with paying to play AOC.

Haha, SoE has no reason to be scared of Age of Conan, trust me. Having beta tested and now played since launch, it's still a beta test. A big chunk of people won't be subscribing after the free month due to all the bugs and missing/broken content. The quality just drops like a rock after the first half of the game. Funcom's patches look something like this:

"Changed "knarled" leather to "gnarled" leather."

And all the people swear there's nothing wrong, just like with Vanguard. Yeah. Prepare for server merges this month.

Good move on SoE's part, I'll check out my bard in EQ just for the hell of it.
