I must agree with Cincia in this point, and I think that you will find that any slchild will also agree, they are children here because they want to be childlike, (not childish), and live a virtual life as a child, sex is not something that naturally interests a child, other than as a curiosity.
Banning child avatars from mature places is once again, almost admitting guilt, that there may actually BE a child behind the avatar, However, a notice asking politely that "only adult shapes to be used beyond this point", would elicit the required response.
slchildren are NOT here for sex, they are here to be children.

Prokofy probably does not even belive the comments in Prokofys post, have a look at Prokofys profile, the last picture says, advertise here for 2000 lindens a week, the most read profile in SL, does that give you a clue???????

You make a lot of innuendoes about LL's influence, but where is the actual evidence that any US Congressman (or indeed, anyone) has influenced its decision?

If people want to be offended at perceived "exclusion", well they will be. If people want to quit volunteering for a SL event, well they will. People can choose to be children or Goreans or whatever they want in SL...but that doesn't mean they've got some sort of protected virtual "avatar right" any more than I do. And all claims to the contrary always sound a little whiny...like "I choose to be this, so you have to accept me"...not quite.

At the end of the day, it's LL's choice as to what shape the day will take, and it's residents' choice whether they attend, celebrate or not.

Cincia, questions you raise are quite complex. I'll try to go one buy one.

Does someone have a "right" to express themselves as a "child" in a mature content area?
Yes, one can express themselves anyway they want in mature areas.

Is it right for "child avatars" to be able to view content inappropriate for minors?
Yes, as it is adult's eyes and mind behind the child avatar.

Is prohibiting "children" from inappropriate behavior discriminatory?
Prohibiting child avatars from attending the celebrationa and showing their work is very discriminatory.

Is it proper to put the rest of the population in a position of having to babysit "mature" sims/regions/builds for "children" to make sure they're behaving as children?
Who asked the rest of the population to babysit the kids? As far as I know, those kids are taking care of themselves much better than many in the "adult" population.

I believe there IS a place for "child avatars" in SL, it's just not in mature areas anymore than it's appropriate for someone to post mature content or participate in mature behavior in a PG sim.
There are many places for child avatars in SL. And, if you haven't noticed, kids are keeping to those places. They are playing their games, talk their talks, having their fun. Just the rest of us. There are BDSM, furry, sci-fi, western, biz, normals, gorrean... all kind of places. Each with its own feel, games, talks. And if you haven't noticed, we rarely mix. Sure, there are some zones that different cultures visit. Like shops, exhibitions, some parties. And one of those, for sure, is celebration of grid's birthday. Cause that grid belongs to all of us. cause we all play, talk, do business and have fun there.I don't know why you think that celebration of that birthday is not appropriate for some kind avatars. And how can you think that anybody that lives on the grid should not be welcomed on the celebration of the diversity of that very grid.

Children are, by anyone's loosest definition, RL or SL, PG (Parental Guidance!). If they weren't then there might be no PG sims and the teen grid might not exist.
PG sims exist because some people don't want to be confronted with "mature" content. For the same reason there are filters in search results. They are not invented to block some people from coming in, but to keep the "clean" space for those who want to be there. That is the only fair way to do things. It is not prohibition but protection for those who want it.

By what logic does putting an adult behind the "child avatar" change what the "child" is or where it is appropriate for it to be?
Logic that adult have a right to chose which content will enjoy?

Dande, we will have to agree to disagree because I don't see any of the items in my list as being complex. We're not talking about behavior between two "consenting adult avatars," we're talking about the perception and RP of behavior between adult avatars and child avatars. I don't have a problem with the child avatars being on the Linden PG sims for the celebration as it is now being promoted, but at the time I wrote my first two responses the celebration was to take place on the mature sims of SL like previous birthday celebrations. As an adult I know there are always limits. We learn to live with the limits imposed on us. I live with those imposed on me, everyone else learns to live with the limits imposed on them. I wish you well, hope you have fun, play well, and I'm sure we'll disagree again in the future. THAT is diversity.

I remember seeing once on tv that there is a disease that causes a person's body to not develop into adulthood, but the person's mind develops as usual, should that person be denied the right to have sex? as I see it, it is just about the same thing with adults wearing child-avs, the appearance isn't important, what is important is the mind behind it

like I've said several times in the past already, I really wish the grid gets to the point where anyone can host a sim that isn't separated from the rest of the main grid like how it happens today with websites, very soon

As I posted on my blog in response to this post, I'm proposing that we now call "child AVs" the "No Child Left Behind My Avatars". A bit clunky, but plays nicely into co-opting their causes, don't you think?

I've also posted various rumors and innuendos which I'm not sure I actually heard but which I might have had I been listening.
