With the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, Lord of the Rings Online's upcoming Mines of Moria and the recent announcement that Rise of Kunark is the #1 highest selling EverQuest II expansion as yet, we've been thinking about expansions. Some people insist that all expansions are is catering to the endgame raiders, in creating more levels to run through before serving up new raid instances. Other expansions do bring in things for lower-end players, like Burning Crusade and Rise of Kunark introduced new races to play, and new areas for them to play in. Today we'd like to ask you what your favorite MMOG expansion has been to date and why? Which games desperately need an expansion to bring something new to the game?

EQ1 Ruins of Kunark
New continent, new race, entirely new content to level through (so you didn't even have to grind through the same stuff yet AGAIN; I'm looking at you WoW).
Set the bar for games coming after it.

I give an answer pretty similar to what Snailking offers: Dark Age of Camelot: Shrouded Isles. It added many of the same things listed above and really changed the idea of end-game PvE that was in DAoC at the time. Hands down, my favorite expansion. Thankfully, though, unlike Kunark, it didn't increase the level cap.
It also added neater sound effects, music. :)

That's why it's the worst expansion imo, because DAOC was mainly a PVP based game where anyone could (and would) join in for massive fun, but then the expansion come out forcing people to pve grind to be competitive in pvp.
I think the RoK expansion for EQ was good but not as good as the later Scars of Velious expansion. Why?
There was the 3 way faction system, which mean there was rewards with siding one way whilst killing the other two really gave allot of depth to the game. Plus allot of dragons and dragon lore/storyline really gave the expansion allot of depth and real feeling that I thought Kunark lacked. Although Kunark brought the bust group dungeons in the game (and in any game to my mind) SoV brought the massive feel to a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game which RoK just didn't really have imo.
