There will always be both because there is a need for both. You can't do a "jump out of your skin" horror type of game in an MMO setting because the main factor in horror is isolation either by yourself or a small group. An MMO would kill that and ruin the mood.

MMO's and online games will continue to gain ground in popularity, but even when playing an MMO, a lot of people still solo. There's always going to be single player games and solo content, as sometimes, we just want to get away from the rest of the world.
