The more I read about this, the more I start to think it's almost like a battleground in every other MMO. It goes against the EVE sandbox backbone that has made the game so great. Will have to wait to see how it turns out.

It's not instanced, though, and the consequences are lasting. Real ships are destroyed, systems change hands until recaptured etc. It's a battleground in the sense that battle will be encouraged there more than elsewhere but not a battleground in the traditional MMO sense. The only worry I have is that owning a system may be essentially meaningless. Will have to wait and see how that pans out.
