What is the maximum number of avatars that can be on a single sim before lag gets so long that performance suffers greatly. I've been at Science Friday when about 100 avatars were present and the lag was unbearable. Is 100 avatars enough for an adequate roll-playing environment?

In answer to the first part: It depends on the way the space is laid out, and the loads placed on the sim. I'm not sure there's a precise answer.

Effective role-playing can happen with two people, so long as there's a context for scenes. 100 could well be too many at once given the amount of space a sim simulates.

We have seen this kind of thing happen again and again. The point person for a group is a single point of connection with the Lindens and can act alone. There has to be some kind of standard contractual remedy so that a single "owner" can't do this. Until this gets worked out I just don't see how large collaborative projects will be feasible in SL.

This is indeed a shame. Osgiliath was an amazing build and the builders of the sim were incredibly talented. Their use of multi-levels in the way they constructed the urban environment was innovative. I can only guess at the pain they are feeling today. They have not only my admiration but also my sympathy.

Wouldn't Group Owned land have prevented this situation to begin with?...

Hey there.

I built the city. We entered an agreement to add the 4 void squares a couple of months ago with Carl, then sold the sims because LL mandated the voids and mainlines needed to be owned by the same guy.

We'd continued paying the same amount we had as before, but obviously something happened on the new owner's end that wasn't communicated to us. Last I heard, we were still okay.

It is very painful.
