Actually, I find it really heartening that these are the things that we are worried about when it comes to the presentation of AoC. Note that we aren't complaining about content or mechanics, but rather the icing on this very robust and smoothly launched cake. I think that metaphor got away from me there at the end, but I think my point is still well made.

AoC has the makings of a very well received and played MMO that has some important ramifications for the genre as a whole. Further, if the concerns that we have are with the UI, I've heard in the OOC chat in-game that there are *already* UI mods available. Not bad for a game that's been out a week.

Not sure how you didn't find out about skill points, as it's referenced in the game. It even says in the messages "You've gained XX skill points" from when you finish certain quest lines or level up. So missing it was kind of hard when you pay attention.

My issues are different.

1) Skills / Feats / Combo / Etc need better descriptions that are more direct. There should be some quick way of showing what skills have, and while it's there, the info is clumsy and not easily pointed out. I hate to say this, but it should be more like WoW with definitive descriptions in an easy to read point form format, rather than the descriptions.

2) More hotbars. A lot more hotbars. A ton more hotbars. Have you seen how many combo's there are to do? How many you get? It's insane. And with three buttons taken up with 1, 2, 3 attacks, it needs a ton more hotbars and button. This is where user created UI would come in, if they allow it.

3) Better documentation in game. I know it just launched, but with all launch games, it lacks a lot of in-game information to help users figure things out. It could really use a better system to answer questions.

4) Log out option? What a novel idea. How about it, cause exiting the game, a game that always gets an error when you exit, it lame.

5) Trader that works. It's still broken and not enabled. LAME! The trader is everything. It's the mail system, the bank system and the auction house system all in one. Those are all vital things for any MMO these days. You'd have to be as dumb as Flagship to launch a game without those three things working.

I could probably add a lot more I come across when playing the game. It needs a lot of work, but then it's been less than a week that it's been playable.

"What I don't understand is why they would honestly care about this in a game that's definitely not aimed at casual players"

Maybe the problem is you're a casual player? :)

As mentioned, every time you level you get a message that says "You've gained 20 skill points!" How did that not get you to click on the tab that says "SKILLS" to figure out what they were?

You found Feats on the FEATS tab but didn't find Skills on the SKILLS tab? :)

Ribbing aside, yeah, the UI needs a lot of work. Hopefully we'll get a complete overhaul soon.

I use /camp to exit to the login screen, which still sucks but it isn't as bad as totally leaving the game to switch characters.

If you hold down ALT and click the Inventory tab only your Inventory will open, not your "paperdoll". If you want just the paperdoll, hold down CTRL when you click the tab. But oops, these don't work if you use the hot keys to open things, only by clicking the tabs. (They work for all the tabs if you just want to open the left or right side.)

See, that's strange, I see no skills tab. I see a feats tab and a "character" tab but no skills tab.

Also, I really don't pay attention to the black bars that pop up telling me things, as when more than two or three of them show up they fill my screen and become really annoying.

Yes, I hate the huge black "You've got X" bars.

I haven't played myself, but if I had to guess it might just be a cackhanded implementation of a system that is supposed to be- in theory- intuitive for the harder core gamer. I suppose GRT makes a good point about it being an obvious question but a little tutorial tooltip that says "You have received Skill Points! Press [Whatever] to assign them! ...I mean, AARGH I'm a Barbarian tutor!!!"

That aside I have heard people complaining as well about the chat interface and that you couldn't change the font size or colour or various other odds and ends we've come to take for granted. I admit that lack of polish surprised me. I also heard there were fewer abilities as a whole and that Funcom struck a good balance between having a diverse number and having few enough to ensure they all get used. On that token I'd guess the whole idea was avoiding the *need* for more quickslots- but apparently one still has too few?

Hopefully this all gets ironed out soon.

The hotbar issue was one of the most annoying for me at the start as well. Thankfully people have already released stable mods that allow alot more bars, that are alot smaller, and can be stacked on top of each other. Thank GOD they allowed modding for the game. Now I have pretty much no complaints. I figure the chat system is fine, its not perfect. You can log out to the main screen without exiting, you just have to wait the 30 seconds and it goes to login not desktop. These are all minor things. The main thing: the gameplay is a blast!

Oh ya, the chat system. That needs A LOT of work. The biggest thing is it needs color and a "ding" when you get a whisper.
