Mostly everything from Dark Age of Camelot, especially classic and Shrouded Isles is very special to me. Most notably "Call to Arms" is completely unforgettable, but not in a good way. :)

The Guild Wars music is on a very high level, especially the Eye of the North soundtrack. I often hear them when driving to work.

FFXI all the way. Nobuo Uematsu has done some fantastic work for XI as well as Naoshi Mizuta and Kumi Tanioka.

I love the opening EverQuest song as well. I have it in my mp3 collection, along with "Stones" from the Ultima games. Ultima IX wasn't the best game, but it had a great orchestral soundtrack (which I seem to have lost, except for that song).

Lament of the Highborne is arguably a high watermark in fantasy game music making. To step away from MMOs (madness!) Morrowind's various soundtracks always spoke to me, and the only game to properly hold a candle to it in terms of striking the perfect balance between presence and subtlety was WoW.

The Night Elven forest theme neither beats you over the head nor fades into the background, and the music in Nagrand is very similar. For LotRO I'd say their crowning musical achievement is the Trollshaws- which also exudes that subtle majesty that for me makes a perfect theme-song for a fantasy adventure. ^^

How could you mention MMO music and not refer to Lineage 2?

It's a bit more subtle and atmospheric, but I've always really enjoyed the music to DDO. There's a Renaissance influence to the music, and it's much more quiet and introspective.

I mean, WoW has some phenomenal cues, but they all tend to be pretty big and powerful. Sometimes, having a lighter, leaner texture really catches my emotions.

Memoria de la Stona from FFXI. It's one of the loveliest songs I've heard. Many of the songs in that game are great. I'm actually not sure they live up to previous Final Fantasy titles, but for an MMO it has amazing music.
