In WoW .. it was Horde / Orc. I play a human IRL. Ironically .. in LOTRO I play Human hunting Orcs. Go figure.

In WoW, unless you're playing PvP in any sense, the division between Horde and Alliance doesn't really much matter: both sides have their own quests and home-range areas, so it's essentially playing two parallel games. At that point, it comes down to which aesthetic you want to spend your levels living in. The Alliance generally has prettier-to-look-at environments, while the Horde have the murkier, more desolate environments.

I usually go for the attractive races, which I think is understated. I've recently started playing mostly female characters because if I'm going to be staring at the ass of an avatar from levels 1 though XX, I might as well enjoy it.

I initially chose Undead because I thought they looked... frankly... a little more like me. I'm not some huge body builder, so the NE and Human characters just didn't feel like "me". Had the Blood Elves been around when I started, I might have gone down a different path.

Interestingly enough, the opening narration was enough to hook me into the Undead story line completely. The Undead aren't there to fulfill some evil plot, we're the rebellion against the evil of the Lich King. So what if we're a bit misunderstood? So what if we aren't completely there "for the Horde"? From level 1, we're in defiance of the greatest threat to the entire world!

How cool is that?
