The data this game handles is WAY off to present day limits of technology.

YOU can NOT have Oblivion like graphics in an MMORPG.
Period.

Hard disks are too slow to transmit the necessary data to the CPU, Servers are too slow to handle ALL "real time" battle resolutions of PvP players.

Just a few examples: Oblivion horse riding: every few seconds you were looking at a screen "reading graphics" to add new content from the HD.

How do you think this can be handled with 300 players on line in the same zone doing exactly the same thing?

You DO know that all "real time" PvP battle resolutions need to pass forth and back to the servers. and guess what? It's doing this at the speed of the slowest connected client !

So complete design disaster.

As per the article, if AoC can survive its launch phase then there is great longevity potential in the game.

re: cutting edge graphics - in 2010 (just over 18 months away) they won't look anything like cutting edge anymore. I think there are more miles in TF2 (nod to WOW) style graphics, which are harder to date, and slower to age.

I think someone woke up with that idea: "We have to make new mmo with high end graphics, we will be number 1!"

Come on, things not works like that.
Yes, i agree that they are going to have many members and fans because of that graphics engine. But at the other side of medallion: they will lose more and more...

I know many people that who is a big fan of AOC said that; i am not going to buy AOC, cant play it, game works like a slideshow!

MMORPG must be MMORPG; u dont need highend graphics for gaining fans.
Quests, combat system, siege wars, conan theme etc.. these are already enough for being a great mmorpg.
