I'd have to say DDO. The combat in there is different from any MMO out right now I believe.

Haven't played AoC, hopefully today when open beta servers go up, but from what I've seen would still have to say DDO.

Tabula Rasa has pretty awesome combat, it's just a shame there isn't any more to the game than that.

I just can't in good conscience back any MMO for its combat, knowing that games outside of the genre do everything they do but better.

But if I have to pick, I'll say Planetside, hands down. And in response to "yeah well, but it's basically an FPS", it's the scale of the battles that really puts it out there on it's own. A couple hundred people fighting in waves is an impressive sight. From hand-to-hand knife fighting to orbital laser strikes, this game covers the whole gamut of micro- and macro-scale combat.

The problem with MMO combat is the humble dice roll the computer performs in the background. If it was a FPS you cast a fireball (gun, arrow etc) and your target moves, you miss.
