Amusingly enough - the "open" beta that was supposed to start this morning at 9AM PST was just pushed back eight hours for a patch of some sort.

I saw a few posts on the boards referring to the failed AO beta and a couple comparisons to Vanguard.

I've heard that the performance has gotten better in some of the recent patches. Though I think we'll really see if that's the case in the open beta once the servers are up.

Best AoC post I've read so far. Thanks for the balanced reporting.

I left my beta client patching when I left for work. Hopefully it'll be ready when I get home. If not, there's always GTA IV. :)

I'm not sure how appropriate it is to discuss problems from the closed beta. That's not what's being offered at launch, or even this Fileplanet beta. Isn't this a big part of why NDAs exist in the first place? The last thing any MMO launch needs these days is an internet wildfire of rumors about poor performance.

If Funcom feels confident enough about the current version of the game to offer it up in an "open" beta, we should judge it by that.

One thing I would suggest to everyone is to update your beta drivers, even to beta ones. It can havea huge impact on performance. I know the 174.74 beta forceware drivers basically doubled my framerate in the PvP beta.
