"what if there were a way to observe a head-to-head match-up between players in your favorite MMO? "

Guild Wars has "Observer Mode" that lets players watch PVP team matches

People record things like WOW raid boss battles and post the vids to YouTube and they seem to get traffic. That indicates to me that there would be a market for this sort of thing.

I actually think PvE would be more interesting just because its all more or less scripted so you'd know what to watch when after seeing a few raids take down boss X. Watching PvP action, chances are you'd miss the "good stuff" since PvP is by nature so unpredictable.

Spectators are fine as long as they are welcome to observe. I can think of at least two frequent scenarios in MMOG's where I would not want any outside observers. The first one is while working out strategies for a world or server-first for taking out an undefeated boss mob. The second is during PvP action -- especially team or realm PvP like WoW's battlegrounds or in DAoC's frontier.

I feel observer mode should be limited to arena-style matches which, in the games that currently support observers, already limit it to that.

City of Heroes/Villains allows observers to "fly" around the arena by controlling a spybot.
