While I think this is a very novel way to look at the industry and it comes up with a great answer; I believe the question is wrong.

The question in the RMT debate shouldn't be "Are developers making it harder for gold companies to be in business and/or making purchased gold worth enough to make people think twice?"

The question should be "Are the developers lessening the impact of gold selling on their paying customers? Are they making their customers happy?"

In the second respect I think blizzard has done the best job. No longer do we get massive amounts of spam in the cities and mailboxes full of gold offers. I forget when they flipped the switch, maybe you can jog my memory, but once they did it basically rendered the 3 addons I used to fight spam unnecessary. Whether this had any change on the price of gold or the in game economy I couldn't really care less.
