I REALLY don't think so.

If we mean MMO's as persistent worlds, no. I know that MOST of my friends who play games need a definite experience. One with an end. They need an a game they can totally complete and not feel compelled to always explore what they haven't seen.

MMO players are just different. We're niche because we like to have a goal that seems nearly unattainable. We like to pour in so much time to the point where even when we do feel powerful and accomplished, there's still more to do.

Why do you think the endgame experience is always such a controversial topic? Because people don't want their MMO to end.

Now, if we're saying "is online multiplayer the future of gaming", then yes it is. I believe so. But an MMO is much more than just an online multiplayer game.
