"Character creation was fine but limited since your class also determines your gender. "
That's one of my pet peeves with a significant number of these Free-To-Play games. Particularly when the female avatar outfits all seem designed by a 14 year old boy. (I'm looking at YOU, 2Moons!)

The other thing is character 'stores' creating lag and chaos in towns, and if I'm remembering right, Last Chaos has that, too.

I played it, but didn't get far for pretty much all the reasons the author outlines. Grind grind grind. I got bored way before I got to 'the good stuff' (and I didn't find any dragon eggs, either).

I'd call this a good "first look" based on my memories of the game (though granted its been quite a while since I played).

Is there REALLY such a demand for Eastern MMOs in the West that we have to continuously be subjected to them? (not a dig on you, Massively...you're doing a fine job taking the repeated bullets for us)

It's a cultural difference, to be sure. There are, without a doubt, those in the West who enjoy these, but really, do these Eastern companies bring them to Western shores, thinking that just becaue they're free that we're going to play them? I don't think that this is, at it's basis, a TRUE cultural issue...I just don't think these games are "Western" enough to really appeal to a wide Western audience.
