It's never too late to create an MMO from an already-established franchise. Heck, movies recycle content more and more frequently these days, so why not games? Sometimes we wonder if anyone has had an original idea since 1990, but this time it's a good thing.
Remember Interplay? Yeah, they're still alive and kicking. Well, they're alive anyway, and they plan on following through with their original plans to make an MMO based on their highly-successful Fallout series. Not only that, but they also mention plans to create sequels for such successful games as Earthworm Jim, Dark Alliance, Descent, and MDK. You may be aware of the sale of the Fallout name to Bethesda in 2007, who are set to release the single-player Fallout 3 later this year. Part of that business deal was the agreement that Interplay would eventually create a Fallout MMO. Finally, 4 years after the original announcement, it's coming to fruition. Currently Interplay is hiring developers and revamping their website in preparation, so we certainly look forward to what they have in store for us.

Not exactly sure about the capabilities of a Descent sequel. The game to me was all about the technology instead of gameplay and story. Now that flight sims and 3d space environments are somewhat of a norm they would have to re-write the entire draw of the 'series'.
Earthworm Jim was fun :P never played the rest.

Actually Ghen, I think Descent had one thing going for it that games haven't quite replicated since, and that's piloting a zero-g ship in close quarters. It was the tunnel running that really made the game shine.
For me, the biggest thing I remember about Descent was having to learn the map as you played through it, because as soon as you blew up the generator, you'd have to navigate your ship (in all it's six degrees of orientation) back out the hatch before the timer ran up.
Descent lost its momentum as soon as they started setting it outside in Freespace. But up to then was a refreshing mix between being a space dogfighting game and an FPS, and I think that could warrant a comeback. Especially with some of these new six-axis joysticks nowadays.

The news that Interplay isn't dead is as big as the news about the sequels. ;) Fallout would make a great MMO. And I loved MDK, so I'm all about a sequel to that game!
