On the Asheron's Call PVP server there was always diplomacy. There were two general factions. PK and Anti. Anti monarchies would only attack when provoked, or only attack known PK's. PK monarchies would attack everyone all the time (except those in their own guild). PK monarchies were the largest, there were tons of of Anti alliances to fight them back.

Of course there is! Get involved in the end game guild politics of EvE Online or Lineage 2 (or any other game that eventually pits arbitrary guilds against each other for PvP objectives).

In an RvR or other 'set sides' game I'd wager that there's probably not.

Not only is diplomacy and politics possible, but it's very much alive in EVE-Online. If we look at the corperation/alliance (read guild) aspect of the game, diplomacy HAS to play a part for any successful business in the world of EVE-Online. Fantastic game.

For those mentioning EvE, I think this article is generally referencing PvE (or AI) diplomacy. However, having mechanics for PvP diplomacy is awesome. EvE I think takes the cake for it.

To this article, I simply reply, the MMO industry won't know until it tries. If a game lauded this as a mechanic, I bet it would turn a few heads, at least within the industry.
