Ironically, five minutes after I wrote the article I regained some sanity and just pre-ordered the normal version, which still provides me with my beloved mammoth.

...what are you talking about. The CE is 89.99. The preorder cost comes off the price, so how the heck would a person be paying 108?

Regardless, any hardcore mmo people will say that they eat this up. Exclusive in-game items are king no matter how trivial for most hardcore players, and the sweet box and goodies are icing on the cake.

If you are a person who thinks the CE is silly, or are disuaded into the regular, you are probably writing for the wrong site!

I loved this writeup, it adds up. But it outlines a sad fact with games nowadays, a lack of commitment in the long run. Once they recoup their costs the can sit pretty and trickle down the updates, meanwhile moving the talent to a new project.

I bought the CE from Amazon for $79.99. Mount is useless until lvl 40 and there are other mounts to be had. GoGamer has CE for $75.00.

I have no interest in the game. Never cared for the movies, and never could get into the books or the setting. Now I did get the CE of Warhammer. ;)

I'm going to guess that the high 108 pricing is part of tax and shipping and handling. But still $20 for tax and shipping is still excessive. Any money you put down up front for reservation goes into the original cost of the game not an extra cost. You get the head start just for preordering. I think most online stores offer free shipping so not sure why the person would not be savvy enough to get out of not paying for shipping. I'll probably get the CE box but I'm going to wait a little longer to see what else is revealed about the game before I make a committment

I never understood pre-ordering games. I keep getting halfway through the AOC pre-order checkout and backing out. Why pre-order when you end up paying more in shipping to get the game 2-5 days after the release date? Sometimes places can't even fulfill their pre-orders because they don't get enough copies.

Meanwhile I usually just slip away from work to go to BB around 9:30 AM to get big titles. Theres never a line for PC games -- that tradition has passed onto console launches and big titles like Halo 3. I get in, get it, get out and I'm playing the first night, without paying any extra money.
