GameDaily landed an interview with SOE president John Smedley in the wake of the recent corporate shuffle that moved SOE into the PlayStation family.
Smedley said a lot more this time than he did when he spoke with WarCry last week. He commented on the departure of Sony Pictures head honcho Yair Landau, saying that it's only a coincidence that the SOE move happened at the same time. He also suggested that the move is a bit like "coming home," since EverQuest was originally developed under SCEA's banner.
Most interestingly, though, he said that while SOE is committed to multi-platform releases (read: PC and PS3), he believes the PS3 has a "massive advantage" over the PC for developers and publishers of MMOs. This is because because the system is "a stable platform where every customer has an online box ... and we don't have to worry about graphics cards or anything like that." That this is an advantage is true; that's why a lot of the recent growth in the industry is in web-based games that will run on any hardware (like Sherwood). But it'll be interesting to see how The Agency and the DC Comics MMO do on the PS3.

Except for keyboards and downloadable modding communities... Seriously now. He's just harping as to why consoles are better than PCs for EVERY game and he's only seeing one side of the story. This debate has gone on for years!

Blah! Haha. Sure the point he makes is a good one, from a console perspective. Though he is forgetting mouse+keyboard (tons of hotkeys!) and downloaded user mods. Mods are HUGE, and to have that on a console (at least to the massive extent they have on the PC) would be impossible. So I am sorry, but his argument is invalid.

This is the same guy that recently stated that the PC is not in decline, then I guess his group is moved under the Playstation family and now he's licking the boots of that management team. He is a joke and a corporate kiss-ass. He just simply outlasted/endured the massive departures at 989 Studios when SOE came in and took over EQ. As a result he went from wearing a t-shirt to wearing a blazer in his publicity photo and stopped being a gamer making games for gamers to becoming a corporate puppet watching his stock options.

I don't know about you, but my mouse and keyboard work fine on my PS3. Games designed to use them work fine. UT3 has proved that game mods are possible and can work fine on PS3.
