I realize this post is meant to be overtly sarcastic, so please bear with me. I think classic arcade games (and even some of the other games mentioned previously) could be made into massively-multiplayer titles, but not as "MMOs" in the dikuMUD-sense that people often use to define what is effectively a large-scale semi-persistent virtual world.

I'm not suggesting anybody rush out and make a Frogger MMO, but I think original games with components similar to the titles mentioned above could work as massively-multiplayer titles. And no, I do not mean clicking on Ms. Pac-man to get a "collect the power pellet" quest or Frogger Interstate Instance Dungeons.

I agree. In the MMO sense (massively multiplayer online, not MMORPG) would some kind of space invaders type game not be fun?

Imagine seeing not ten's but HUNDREDS of invaders moving towards your ship. You and 9 other people are the last hope blah blah blah. They could do a pac-man championship edition style game with updated graphics, multiple ships, guns, powerups etc...

Would that not be fun?

P.S. Obviously some of these wouldn't really make a good game. I can't see how a frogger/missle command could be made into a multiplayer experience. Robotron could be cool...

Wait, wasn't Tabula Rasa an MMO version of Robotron 2084?
