yes, microsoft will make another MMO. All that company sees is $$ that weren't spent before on computer entertainment. They see the market being opened by Blizzard and Second Life that just wasn't there before.

Whether they fail or not I don't know, but they will definitely try again. Probably by purchasing a big name studio that already has a background and is due for another MMO. Maybe NCSoft? I could see Microsoft wanting Lineage 3 on their team. It might be too late to fund their 'next super-hero mmo' (I forget the name).

Vanguard originally was also to be published by MS, so you can add that to the list.

They've done this enough with their single-player lineups too actually. When I started digging, examples began to crawl out of the woodwork (Vanguard included), though not all of them even had names.

"We thought genre X would be a bigger deal than it was by the time project Y was getting close to release. It wasn't. We're canceling project Y."

Any number of such things can get neatly packaged under the PR neutral "based on a careful evaluation of the competitive MMORPG landscape"

Microsoft will absolutely make another MMO. My only reason for drawing this conclusion is that they will want a cross platform MMO(PC + Xbox). They'll be able to do something that Blizzard simply can't(or at least hasn't to this point): offer their product to PC players and console players alike.

If you can't beat them...play on a battlefield that they can't.

I don't doubt that they'll *start* one. Perhaps several. I'm just not sure they'll follow through as far as release. Of course if someone thinks my reasoning is wrong, now's a great time to show me where I've gone wrong :)

I think at this point its safe to say to any developer thinking about making an MMO for Microsoft... THINK TWICE, THIS IS A BAD BUSINESS DECISION....

Hey, they produced Asheron's Call, and got Turbine started. I really enjoyed AC in the Microsoft days.

I agree with Arabica. If MS does do a MMO it would be wise to make it for xbox + PC, like AoC is going to do. My personal opinion is they will play the wait and see and see how AoC does for xbox 360 sales before deciding anything.

MS will probably do another mmo but it seems they want to be able to compete with WOW (ie get millions of subs) if they do

at least that was the reasoning they gave for Marvel Online

MS used similar reasoning for cancelling Mythica, citing that they couldnt compete with Everquest (PreWOW)
