I truly liked CoH customization. I believe its generally accepted as the best character creation scheme to date. Now, if they could combine that with an equivalent level of power customization, I believe that they would have an MMO killer app on their hands.

Hey, if they can pull it off more (super) power(s) to them! But the trend in this biz is HYPE HYPE HYPE aaaaaaaaand more HYPE. With absolutely ZERO realization. See: The Marvel MMO, the DC MMO, etc. and so on.

I know a lot of CoX players that played Champions back in the day (myself included) and have actually carried old characters they had on paper over to CoX. If this is done as said, and we actually SEE IT... BOOOOOYA!

I have to shed a little bit of doom on this topic...

City of Heroes originally had its character system designed so that you could pick and choose and use whatever powers you wanted. They found that all this did was leave it so everyone twinked out their characters, it was a very flawed game design, and they dumped it for the Archetype system they have now.

After speaking to a few players of the Champions pen & paper system, its the same thing, twink your character out to be uber and go. This concept won't work well as an MMO, so they're either going to nerfbat the hell out of it or its not going to be what you all want it to be.
