This is all very nice, but the reason it matters whether games are considered art is not philosophical or aesthetic, but legal. In the U.S. and most western countries, a communication that counts as "art" is entitled to greater protection of its expression than one that is purely commercial. This legal doctrine may not be coherent or make much sense at all, but it's an important one and it's not going to change anytime soon. But that is why it matters whether games are art.
