Aww... I tried 1.19.0.0 for a few hours, and two things captured my attention. First, it features the "new" UI elements as seen on the Mono Beta viewer. And secondly, 1.19.0.0 exhibited a quite strange behaviour: on a region where I usually have 10-15 FPS, it went as low as 2 FPS for a few minutes, then to 30 FPS (!) for a few minutes, then back to 2... and so on. I thought it was my Internet connection, but my roomie, running the regular viewer, and being on exactly the same region, was getting rock-solid 10 FPS.

I can only wildly speculate on what was happening. The optimist in me likes to believe that Linden Lab managed to double the usual performance on my iMac (hardly likely, but it's always nice to wish for miracles!), but, since the 1.19.0.0 viewer was looking for some features not available on the server (which will only be upgraded next week), it waited/paused/timed out, dropping the FPS while doing so. Once that was over, performance climbed up to twice of what I usually expect on that region — until the SL client asked the server again for something not coded yet.

It'll be intriguing to see if the huge increase on performance was just a happy coincidence :) Yesterday I just logged in briefly (with the 'old' 1.18.6.4 RC), but I was getting fairly easily 24+ FPS on most places, which is not so usual...

And now we see the impact of going hog wild on stability fixes.

I'm not so sure about removing the "New Account..." button. Has it been found that it contributes little to nothing in terms of increasing uptake of Second Life compared to starting registration from a web browser? Or is this a security consideration at play?

The hit-and-miss support of VoIP on Linux builds was better than prior zero support too.

I'll be glad when the RC gets put back in properly... unless they nerf the improvements. :(

The removal of the preferences button from the front screen gets me.

Sometimes it is necessary to have the prefs screen open in order to make performance or location changes to one's account prior to logging in so as to not adversely affect the performance of the client during login, OR to log in from a specific sim, should one's usual sim not be available.

While such bugs really ought to be fixed beforehand, the removal of access to this screen will make for a tougher time for those who would like to use the prefs screen as a workaround to certain in-world problems upon login.

I'm not sure I understand the reasoning for its removal, honestly.
