I would guess the MS item cap would be to hinder the price gougers...the peopel who buy things lower than their price and keep them a fixed, inflated rate...which I noticed quite a bit of on Pegasus.

I believe the MS cap was more reactionary due to some players using the MS as a extended item bank. Over pricing, to the point of stupidity, the price of items for sale, knowing they'd never sell and then letting them sit in the "received item" tab at ms after the sale timed out, in effect creating a item bank/storage. I'd heard of players, anticipating the coming drop alterations which 1.4 ushered in, hoarding rare items to the tune of hundreds per alt.

This was likely causing a database issue for the MS system as it was clearly never intended to handle that level of load of things sitting there for weeks and growing exponentially. I imagine in a few weeks they'll further tweak the cap or filter as to type the amount of things put up for sale.
