I have to say, Turbine's devotion to the game is unquestionable. Their Book updates have brought so much to LotRO, and the game's only $10 in stores. It's really a great deal in the MMO market right now.

Scratch that, they bumped it up to $20 again. Still alright, though not as good as $10.

I'm very impressed with the amount of character customization, both cosmetic and gameplay with stances for just about everyone these days, that Turbine is getting into this game. LOTRO may actually be the best MMORPG for fans of virtual worlds and socializing, between music, housing, costumes, etc.

Where they haven't been as good is in the addition of adventuring content. The state of Angmar quests was atrocious, people were saying as much in closed beta a good 10 months ago, and they're just now fixing them. (This was actually the reason why I canceled my subscription at the end of September - yes, I was well behind the leveling curve - and it looks like I made the right move since it's going to be at least February before it's fixed.) The new swift travel route was sorely absent several books ago. Retroactive rep gain A) shouldn't have been necessary, because they should have finished the rep system in time for launch and B) failing that should have been done in time for the roll-out of the rep system, not months later after people spent time grinding rep that they should have been entitled to for past efforts. Quest balance changes to grouping requirements for low end content (which was very hard to find groups for as of September) were needed long ago. I could go on.

Bottom line is, LOTRO is a very good game that falls just short on the actual content front, and I will probably be coming back for another visit when their paid expansion comes out. I figure the money I'm saving by not paying them a subscription fee right now will pay for the expansion box, so I'm prepared to call us even.
