Speculating that it is Lineage 2 makes a lot of sense. L2 has a rather large European contingent and it gets pretty crazy since L2 is a hardcore PVP. My knee jerk reaction is that this in-game animosity probably took place on a "private server"(read: stolen code run on a server not operated by NCsoft). In as much as NCsoft is unbelievably inept I doubt that even they would allow that clan name.

Then again...weirder stuff has happened.

I think it's funny that the MMORPG world is in complete denial about the damage these games cause. Like any activity, sport, hobby, there are positive and negative ways for use and the policy of these games affect our reality. To flat out deny that they have any negative effects is headstuffing in the sand.

If MMORPGs want to improve their impact on people's lives (and stay out of legal trouble) they and their participants will consider the damage along with the benefit they provide in society, and adjust their games accordingly.

@ 3, This incident is circumstantial at best you can't prove or disprove that playing lineage 2 led to this incident. I think the media has sensationalized MMO's to be the new evil as all video games but in acuality films and music often glorify violence tenfold then video games do. The fact of the matter is that idiots can be found anywhere and to just find blame in a game for the incidnet is just senseless finger pointing. This incident could have happened even if they never played Lineage 2. They could have fought over something as stupid as one stepping on the other's sneakers.... so then what? You blame nike for making such sneakers to be stepped on?
