The out-of-game community. Go to just about any MMO forum and try to have an intelligent conversation about something, and within a few messages someone will start injecting some kind of venom/hate into the thread.

This is particularly true if you post about things you like (STFU noob, that suxxorz) or things you don't like (STFU noob, that roxxorz), or if you ask for advice (STFU noob, learn2play!!1!omg!).

Ok, so in other words, no matter what you post... :)

Oddly, when I'm actually in-game and playing, the communities tend to be pretty nice. Yeah, you get the odd spat going on, but overall most people are just trying to have a good time. I dunno what it is about forums that turn so many people into haters.

My guess would be that the forums contain posters who don't even play the game. (and possibly never have) It's easy troll bait to pick on people's favorite pastimes.

In game (CoH) it's the random blind invites to PL or bridge based on my toon's level then getting cursed at for not helping out the person.
