Gigantic "BOO" to random battles. That's a step backwards. Why don't they design the game in glorious 8-bit while they're at it?

Why's it a bad thing? Did it turn out to be a bad thing when Blizzard made world PvP optional in WoW? No, but people still say it is. Some people want to play a game, not get ganked by level 70's while they're trying to level in Stranglethorn. It may not be popular, but conversely it may end up being extremely popular. And since when were random battle based games as archaic as 8-bit graphics? Square only stopped them in the FF series in X-2, and they've only released one proper FF since then. And even 12 uses turn based.

Is it too obvious I'm an FF fanboy?

Being able to alter the landscape is a HUGE step forward, in my opinion. It's something I've been wanting to see for years.
