"just like RL people tend to use Facebook OR MySpace, not both."

I use Facebook, MySpace, Last.fm, Netlog and Vampirefreaks in RL. Does that make me a freak then? :P

It makes you unusual - you aren't following the tendency of the bulk of such users.

Whether that makes you a freak is up to you.

"Maximum concurrency will continue to increase, reaching over 100,000 routinely by the end of the year."

I think many residents would agree that that just is not enough. More than anything I'd like to see everything else take a backseat until the grid is more stable, and doesn't implode when it gets too busy.

It's hard for me to dream big for my SL based business when the possibility of it *really* growing cannot be reality due to server load restrictions...

There was like 9.5 million signups in 2007, and maybe a lot more to come in 2008. But not many stick around, since they can't even stay logged in.

...But I do agree on your predictions Eloise. And nice on the JIRA one. I saw you said you were writing that prediction as it was announced on the official Linden blog. Very nice. :-)

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you Alicia, this time of year is manic for RL birthdays and things.

Anyway, I don't think 100,000 is a good target for concurrency in terms of SL as a MUVE, and it's one that I would be happy to mark myself as failing on when we reach it in April and we're between 250,000 and 500,000 come the end of the year. But...

Whilst I do trust, more or less, that LL have people beavering away to do this, previous experience suggests that each time they find and smooth away one bottleneck they discover another another one not much further down the line.

I rather strongly suspect that this is actually why we haven't seen more competitors for SL in years gone by. They can look at where SL is and try to stress test to exceed SL's concurrency and you know what? It's hard work!
