Great post, and I'm in full agreement.

So I guess your co-blogger Eli Shayotovich would call you a carebear with an entitlement mentality, huh?

The world is such a horrible place with people like you and I wanting to play games to...*gasp* have fun.

What you want with the no rep/level/whatever grind is quite impossible in a MMO pay-per-month enviroment, atleast til the companies decide they want less money.
Just the simple fact that EVEN THOUGH people hate the level/rep/whatever grinds, they still due it due to the pressure of being "endgame".

WoW reviewed its 20-60 leveling system due to the simple fact that the hardcore people are already playing the game and they are GONNA KEEP PLAYING no matter if they make 20-60 more casual friendly and that way hook in even more people into it.

They havent done the 20-60 exp buff for the players sake, I seriously doubt that, its just a very very clever trick to make GF/BFs, Friends, Whatevers hooked to the game to just in smaller dozes :)

And really, lets keep to wow here, remove the exp/rep grind and what do we have? Just raids/PVP, and really whats exiting about redoing the same crap over and over again in raid/pvp that is not exiting by redoing exp/rep over and over again? :)

Really, what they need to add are more goals along the way that maybe are locked out for higher level characters. You shouldn't have to be level 75 just to have fun, and it would be nice if you were kind of a casual player not to have to spend a ton of time to get to a reward. If it was more levelled and episodic that way, you would stay longer as a casual player which would be to everyone's benefit.

Well hopefully you get the nice initial glow back from FFXI, it's backstory is great and I still love it for that. I guess comparitively to what it was leveling is much easier, but it's still one of the heaviest grind-fests I've ever partaken in. I mean don't get me wrong for the first year or so it was fun, but then you come to the stark realisation that, really it's just push a button, wait on some timers, let the game do some math, then hit another button. Idk that style of play just doesn't attract me anymore. That and how formulaic the game is now, I mean with the additions of newer areas as you've pointed out hardly anyone goes anywhere else. Once u get up in the 60s you basicaly squat 7 or 8 camp sites in ToAU or wait for one to open, only one time when I suggested rather than inserting our thumbs you know where while we wait for a spot to open, that we go hit up Bibiki Bay and at least get something, or KRT. Idk mostly I was with PUGs being that our LS was fairly spread out, maybe it's just resultant of that. Unless they added some major ease with WotG, cause the 2 classes imo certainly aren't what was needed, another bard and another mage (like the bard ok, but really what was needed was another tank class) I can't see myself going back, like you said it's more of a job than a fun game.
