WHY DO SO MANY COMPANIES USE THE UNREAL ENGINE SO MUCH?

(Q.Q)

We were just discussing (quietly) on the Mass Effect forums yesterday about how so many of Mass Effect's shortcomings were due to them using the Unreal 3 engine, which doesn't support so many of the features that would have enlivened the game environments.

I can only assume the Unreal engine is very well groomed and wears a suit and speaks with a clipped English accent... or something like that.

But it's inordinately popular lately, and as a result, all the games look very similar and have very similar features and limitations lately!

Which makes me Q.Q
