Short answer: No. WoW will never be beaten by another MMO. When it dies, it'll be of old age. It's just too high on the MMO foodchain and has taken up too much of the market to be killed.

Yeah, people said the same thing about EQ.

EQ was never as rich as World of WarCraft.

Well, if there's one developer out there that could possibly top Blizzard, it would be BioWare. Here's hoping they hit a home run.

As for "killing WoW" it would be unlikely that anything right now could do that. But give it a couple of years. When it's popularity begins to wain and the wait between expansions is too long and people are looking for something new, it will be vulnerable. I would imagine Blizzard will attempt to stem turnover at that point with hype for it's next MMO.

Kudos to BioWare as it appears they understand that a quality MMORPG doesn't need to be an EQ-style raidfest to be enjoyable.

If they can manage create a game that's as deep, vast, and rich as WoW, without all the tedium of raiding, they'll have a hit on thier hands.

Sorry to say but grinding is essential in any mmo... it just wouldn't be fair if newbs could defeat vets. Gear should dictate your rank in any mmo because you've worked hard for it. I hope if they do make a KOTR mmo please let it be real time and be similar to swg pre nge.

Bioware is no Blizzard. Not technically, not creatively. They've done well with KOTOR and Mass Effect and they're definitly a quality company but Blizzard has a near flawless track record with their games.

I think they can create something that's totally cool and sells well but it'll be buggy and short lived compared to WoW.

Actually, you forgot Baldur's Gate in that list, as well as neverwinter nights, but that's just splitting hairs lol. Honestly, I have to agree that Bioware could do it, but if it is KOTOR, I don't think it's gonna work. People are already turned off to SWG, they'll see this and think it's more of the same.

The only other company who I think could do it would be Bethesda. Elder Scrolls has a huge, deep backstory, just like Warcraft did when WoW was released. Not to mention the following Elder Scrolls has.

In this genre, the game in the lead can and WILL always eventually be beaten by someone else. It happened to UO, it happened to EQ, it happened to Lineage (which some people don't realize had a much larger share in the market than WoW ever had.) The reality is over the last several months WoW has been losing market position. You have millions of game palyers who have yet to play an MMO (Halo is not an MMO) but to use Halo as an example, if Halo 4 was converted into an MMO then you'd have that entire fan base ready to switch. New games come out, new players enter the genre and most importantly, game companies are unable to keep up the desires of their existing player base and so they leave. Most people are already saying that Warhammer will be the WoW killer. So, yes, BioWare probably can take them down. It's all about timing.
