Back when I used to play Eve, we had a channel just like that. It only allowed alliance members and we would report hostile sightings and gate camps.

Whenever trying to make the run from empire to 0.0 or back, watching that channel was a necessity.

Just check out the map. It may not always show a camp or pending doom, but if you see a BIG RED DOT over the next system you have to get through, migh be best to wait or find another route.

Heck, anything more than 3 or 4 ship kills in an hour and a couple of pod kills in that same time should get your attention.

In order to reliably report gatecampers, you need to be a credible source. But it's hard for a single person or small organization to gather data from such a widespread set of locations.

CCP simply needs to introduce a unit that can scan on the other side of a gate to tell if there are any ships lurking around there.

It seems reasonable that the gates can talk to each other. So why couldn't you simply ask the gate for access to its sensors to scan the other side of the warp?
