While I can't predict the "Next" big thing, I did get a chance to get my hands on Warhammer at GenCon. Will it be the WoW killer? I doubt it. Will it take some people away from WoW? Most definitely. It's similar enough to WoW that I believe it's an easy transfer, but different enough to draw interest and keep it. Also the passion of WAR's dev team really interests me, I'm all for a game that the game designers love to play during their lunch break.

Either way, I'm ready for a great mmorpg now, not later. I did the WoW thing, played WotLK at GenCon as well....more things, same WoW. I'm tired of it....oh Age of Conan....interesting but don't know if it'll keep long timers.

I remember that a lot of people were excited about WoW because of Blizzard. I don't know of too many DEVELOPERS who can claim a rabid fanbase of their own, but BioWare is most certainly one of them.

Companies like Blizzard or BioWare don't just garner a fanboy following because of their products, but because people recognize that they know their industry, they make the trends and don't follow them, and have a proven track record of producing products which excite people.

While WAR will no doubt do well, it's hype exists because of it's license. Shop the license anywhere, and you'd still have the hype regardless of the developer. With BioWare (and Blizzard), people get excited over namless, IP less projects BECAUSE of the developers, which is why I agree that the BioWare MMO will be the Next Big Thing.

This has to be paid content, right?

I agree with the whole "I'm pretty sick of high fantasy now" type deal, and my next two big hopes are KOTORO and Warhammer 40k online (which there are little to no details what so ever). But then again it's quite easy to garner publicity and a fan base without delivering a solid functioning and enjoyable game ... just look at hellgate.

You forgot one thing... Easy to play.. (learning curve).. MMO is not for the hard core only anymore. I think some developers can't get past that.

The easy to learn UI, crafting system, and quest /zone lay out, sold me on WoW. Not end game content that very few people will actually see.

Its the most open MMO I've ever played. I rarely if ever feel confined to doing just one thing, like other games I've tried.

If some one can keep these staples and a new layer that WoW does not have. I will seriously think about moving, because the only thing WoW lacks is something new.
