I played Meridian 59 for 2+ years and had a great time with it. There was open PvP with a great penalty system, there was political intrigue and guild espionage, and it's really a system that hasn't been duplicated in any game since (the closest I've seen is EVE Online).

I remember when UO launched and everybody left, but it was so buggy that just about everybody came back. It wasn't until EQ launched that people finally left M59 for good, and it wasn't long before 3DO gave up on it and shut it down.

Glad to see it still lives on today.
